Opening Scenes and Characters - Introduction

In the next few posts I will be focusing on the convention of introducing characters, a common purpose of opening sequences. 

I am going to look at two opening scenes from different genres to analyse the ways that characters are introduced, and how directors foreground character traits for the spectator.

The two movies I will be looking at are 'Taxi Driver' directed by Martin Scorsese and 'Trainspotting' directed by Danny Boyle.
